The NHL Trade Deadline is in five days. There is going to be a lot of trades that will occur at this time. The Colorado Avalanche have made another deal as they and the Minnesota Wild have come to a deal involving Nico Sturm,
Minnesota Wild Acquires: F Tyson Jost
Colorado Avalanche Acquires: F Nico Sturm
Minnesota Wild Side
I don’t know what the Wild are doing here making this deal. Tyson Jost is not the best prospect that was on the Avalanche and he is more of a swiss army knife. The Wild must have saw something in him and believe that a change of scenery would help him. Plus Jost could benefit with more minutes on the Wild. Jost shines on defense but he struggles a lot on offense and hopefully for the Wild he could develop as a solid middle-six center. If he doesn’t it would not shock me if he was a depth piece for the AHL Iowa Wild.
Colorado Avalanche Side
On the Avalanche side this is a very intriguing move for the team to make. With all the injuries the Avalanche currently have this season there going to need fill in players until the team is healthy especially as they are aiming for the Stanley Cup this season. I like this deal for two reasons. First is obviously that the Avalanche in making this deal also save around 1.275 million dollars. Second I believe that Nico Sturm is a better player overall than Tyson Jost is. Especially when on offense he is statistically better. The stats show below…
The stats in question

Grades for Nico Sturm Trade
Minnesota Wild: C-
Colorado Avalanche: B
I have to give leverage in this deal to the Colorado Avalanche as they save money making this deal, get a player that they can help fill a need in there 4th line, and have a fill-in player until there team is healthy for the playoffs. The Wild on the other hand get a player that could be something with a change of scenery but contract could be an issue once they have to pay the salary of Parise and Suter’s contracts starting next season due to their buyout.
