Trade Grade: Sacramento Kings Trade Marvin Bagley in a four team deal with the Detroit Pistons, Los Angeles Clippers, and Milwaukee Bucks

The NBA Trade Deadline was on February 10th, 2022 and I expected many transactions to occur especially trade. Don’t worry I didn’t forget about the big one. I call 4 team trades the big one as it involves a lot of players and teams. The Transaction revolved around Marvin Bagley and the teams involved in Sacramento Kings, Detroit Pistons, Los Angeles Clippers, and Milwaukee Bucks.

Sacramento Kings acquire: SG Donte DiVincenzo, PF/C Trey Lyles, SG/SF Josh Jackson, PG David Michineau, and a Second Round Pick (Detroit Pistons)
Detroit Pistons acquire: PF/C Marvin Bagley
Los Angeles Clippers acquire: SF Rodney Hood, PF/SF Semi Ojeleye, and SG Vanja Marinkovic
Milwaukee Bucks acquire: PF/C Serge Ibaka, Two Future Second Round Picks (Detroit Pistons and Sacramento Kings) and Cash

Sacramento Kings Side
The Sacramento Kings have made a ton of questionable moves through the past few years. But I kind of like this deal for the Kings. This season was a complete mess for the Sacramento Kings. They needed to restructure the core and they were not going to win with Marvin Bagley. The Kings are heading into another rebuild earlier trading Buddy Heild and Tyrese Haliburton. This trade confirmed the case. The piece that I really loved that the Kings acquired is Donte DiVincenzo. DiVincenzo is an extremely underrated defender in the NBA and is a solid screen passer. I also like the team acquiring Josh Jackson as solid swing man who can make good passes. Lyles is going to be more of a depth piece and Michineau is currently playing for an international team. The Kings also get a draft pick to help them on their rebuild.

Detroit Pistons Side

The Pistons have to build around Cade Cunningham in order for them to have a successful rebuild. The Pistons need to have an explosive athlete who can help offensively on their attacks. I believe Marvin Bagley can be that player. Let’s be real Marvin Bagley needed a change of scenario as he was not working out during his tenure with the Sacramento Kings. Maybe a change of scenery will help him as he still has a ton of potential to be a strong player for this team.

Los Angeles Clippers Side
When I first saw the compensation that the Clippers got in this deal I was not a fan. Now I’m not saying Rodney Hood and Semi Ojeleye are scrubs, their decent rotational players. Plus Hood still has a lot of potential and could be a sleeper player on the Clippers. But Serge Ibaka was an excellent part of the Clippers defense. But then you look at the luxury tax and I understood why the Clippers were a part of this trade. They actually reduced their luxury tax by 30 million dollars and the generated a 9.72 trade exception. No wonder why they received little in compensation in the deal. Oh and for Vanja Mainkovic has not played a game in the NBA yet as he is playing in an international league.

Milwaukee Bucks Side

In order for the Milwaukee Bucks to repeat another victory as NBA Champions they have to improved their weakness at defense. Something is just missing with the Bucks defense and they needed another piece on there defense. Serge Ibaka can be that player as he is an excellent player to have for the defense. He certainly is an upgrade to what they had. Plus the Bucks get draft capital and cash in this deal to help strengthen the team which is a plus.

Many will probably disagree with me here but I am going to give the Sacramento Kings a higher grade in this deal. They can build for the future with the resources they got and Bagley was not going to be a part of there long term future. The Pistons needed to surround Cunningham so it is worth a shot going for Marvin Bagley. The Clippers avoid paying a large luxury tax but had to trade Ibaka for little in value. The Bucks fill a need and get resources to help strengthen their team for the future. Still a solid deal for all the teams involved.
