Free Agency has been crazy with a bunch of transactions occurring, especially trades. Another trade occurred between the New England Patriots and Cleveland Browns. While this trade is not as blockbuster as others it is still an interesting one, as it involves Chase Winovich.

Cleveland Browns Acquire: LB Chase Winovich
New England Patriots Acquire: LB Mack Wilson

Cleveland Browns Side

Jadeveon Clowney is a free agent this offseason and I doubt the Browns will be able to re-sign him to another contract, especially since they are now a part of the Deshaun Watson trade rumors. Chase Winovich needed a change of scenery and he could be a better fit in Cleveland than he was in New England. There are reports that the Browns are going to try and have Chase Winovich play as a DE/EDGE rusher, which could work. He showed flashes of being a solid pass rusher in New England. Worse for worse, Chase Winovich is a solid special teams player. The Browns save 1.535 million dollars making this move.

New England Patriots Side

The Patriots need to get an insurance policy, as they have a lot of linebackers that are free agents in Donta’ Hightower, Ja’Whaun Bentley and Jamie Collins. Heck, a few days ago, the team released Kyle Van Noy. The Patriots had to get a Linebacker to replace one of them. Mack Wilson shined during his rookie season but has not impressed since. He also needed a change of scenery and might be a better fit in New England.

Grades for Chase Winovich Trade
Cleveland Browns: B+
New England Patriots: B

This is a win-win trade for both teams, but due to the Browns saving money in this deal, I have to give the them the win. Looking at the salary for next season, Mack Wilson will make $2.5 million and Chase Winovich will make $965,000. But both teams help improve there team by gaining depth in their respective positions. Solid move by the Cleveland Browns GM Andrew Berry and New England Patriots GM/Coach Bill Belichick.
