With the NFL Preseason here, I would expect for there to be a few trades to happen. Especially at the beginning of the preseason just in case teams want a depth piece or to make sure they can upgrade the position while players are injured. Other teams even want to do a deal to get something for a player that they were going to cut on final cut day. This is one of those trades and it involved TE Adam Shaheen. The details of the trade are down below.

Trade Details
Houston Texans receive: TE Adam Shaheen and a 2023 7th Round Pick
Miami Dolphins receive: 2023 6th Round Pick

Houston Texans Side

Houston has been known to make a lot of questionable moves the past few years. However, it makes a lot of sense why the Texans made this deal. It is clear that the starting tight end will either be Brevin Jordan or Pharaoh Brown. But depth wise the Texans are in dire need of one, especially with Anthony Auclair’s and Teagan Quitoriano injury. While they heal up Shaheen will be the plug in guy. Shaheen is not great and has been a bust draft wise, but the Texans did not sacrifice much for this deal to happen.

Miami Dolphins Side

Not hard to analyze the Dolphins side as the Dolphins already have a ton of depth at tight end. He was clearly not going to make the 53 man roster, so it is best to get something for him now before final cut day hits. So upgrading a draft pick is well worth it.

Grades for Adam Shaheen Trade
Houston Texans: B
Miami Dolphins: B+

Overall its a win-win deal for both teams. I have to give the edge to the Miami Dolphins here because like I said they got something for a player they were going to cut in a few weeks. The Texans don’t loose in this deal as they get much needed depth at a position that has a ton of injuries at the moment. Overall great move by Dolphins GM Chris Grier and Texans GM Nick Caserio.
