With today being the trade deadline there are a ton of moves being made. Some deals are a blockbuster deal like the Giroux trade and some are not as big. These are one of these trades where it is not that big. This deal is between the Detroit Red Wings and the Los Angeles Kings. It mainly focuses on Troy Stecher.
Detroit Red Wings Acquire: 2022 7th Round Pick
Los Angeles Kings Acquire: D Troy Stecher
Detroit Red Wings Side
Well now this is a weird trade for Steve Yzerman to make. Especially as Troy Stecher has been pretty solid for the Red Wings. He has not played a lot of games for them but showed flashes. I am guessing the reason for this move is for a salary dump as Stecher has a cap hit of 1.7 million dollars. Or maybe that the Red Wings wanted to get something value wise for a player that they were not going to resign in the end of the season. The Red Wings could have gotten more value for Stecher which is the weird part of this move.
Los Angeles Kings Side
The Kings are dealing with a lot of injuries on the defenseman position. Especially with Drew Doughty, Matt Roy, and Sean Walker being out for awhile. Potentially the entire season with Drew Doughty and Sean Walker. The cap hit at 1.7 for a rental may sting but in order for the Kings to make the playoffs this year there going to need to acquire depth on the defenseman position fast. Luckily Troy Stecher was on the market during the trade deadline and the Kings did not sacrifice a lot of draft capital in order to obtain Stecher. If Stecher impress than the Kings could bring him back as a part of the core for next season.
The Stats in Question

Grades for Troy Stecher Trade
Detroit Red Wings: D
Los Angeles Kings: A+
No question who wins this one. Easily the Los Angeles Kings as they did not need to sacrifice much draft capital to acquire Stecher, fills a much needed weakness with all the injuries, and he has potential to impress. The Detroit Red Wings well at least they shed salary and get an extra draft pick. Great move by Los Angeles Kings GM Rob Blake and interesting move by Detroit Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman.
