With the NBA Finals still going on, there were many that expected a lot of coverage for the NBA to be focused on the Finals between the Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics. I did not expect for there to be news regarding a trade. That trade is between the Denver Nuggets and Oklahoma City Thunder and it involves PF JaMychal Green. The details of the trade are down below.
Denver Nuggets Acquire: 2022 1st Round Pick (30th Overall), a 2023 2nd Round Pick and a 2024 2nd round pick
Oklahoma City Thunder Acquire: PF JaMychal Green and a protected 2027 1st Round Pick
Denver Nuggets Side
This move was mainly made for the Nuggets due to salary reasons. As making this deal gives the Nuggets some flexibility in either getting an 8.2 million via a trade exception or 6.4 million in a tax mid-level exception. With the Nuggets making this move they are expected to pay less in the luxury tax.Plus Green was not a big focus point for the Nuggets team. The draft picks are just a bonus additions as they can utilize them to build around Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray.
Oklahoma City Thunder Side
Sam Presti did it again, by added a new edition to the Thunder’s pick collection. Alright, jokes aside, I like this deal a lot for the Thunder as that draft pick in 2027 is more valuable than the 30th pick this years draft. Who knows what the Nuggets will look like in 2027 as they could potentially be a terrible team at that year. The Thunder need to surround players around Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and JaMychal Green can be a solid piece for them. Plus the Thunder have the cap space to afford bringing in Green to there team.

This seems like a win-win deal for both teams. I would h lean towards giving the win of this trade to the Denver Nuggets. Mainly because they get some much needed cap space and get more draft picks to help build the team. The Oklahoma City Thunder don’t loose either as they get a solid player that will help in there rebuild and spread apart there pick collection. Overall solid move by both Nuggets GM Calvin Booth and Thunder GM Sam Presti.
