Oklahoma City Thunder’s Pick Collection (2022-2027 NBA Draft)

(Patrick Gorski – USA Today Sports)

Many noticed that the Oklahoma City Thunder decided to blow it all up during the 2019 offseason to start their rebuilding process. What they did was make a ton of blockbuster trades which has resulted in an amazing amount of draft picks collected by the team. In fact in the span of the next 5 years from 2022 to 2027 the Oklahoma City Thunder will have a total of 36 draft picks as a result of the many trades made by Oklahoma City Thunder GM Sam Presti.

2022 NBA Draft

1st Round

Oklahoma City Thunder (Own Pick) – The Thunder currently own this pick. However if this pick somehow is either in 15-30th selections then the pick will be property of the Atlanta Hawks as a result of the Carmelo Anthony/Dennis Schroder Trade in 2018. Keep in mind that I used the word somehow because I doubt that this pick will transfer as Oklahoma City is tanking and is one of the worst teams in the league currently. So as a result it is likely that the pick the Oklahoma Thunder will be giving up in the Carmelo Anthony/Dennis Schroder Trade is a 2024 2nd Round Draft pick.

Los Angeles Clippers (Paul George Trade) – This pick is an unprotected selection

Phoenix Suns (Chris Paul Trade) – This pick is currently a Top 12 protected pick. If this pick does not transfer then it becomes a Top 10 pick in 2023, a Top 8 Pick in 2024 and then become unprotected in 2025.

Detroit Pistons (2021 NBA Trade Up) – The Thunder acquired this pick in the 2021 NBA Draft where they selected Alperen Sengün and then traded him to the Houston Rockets for Two draft picks including this one. However this pick does have protections. In 2022 this pick is Top 16 protected, Top 18 protected in 2023 and 2024, Top 13 protected in 2025, Top 11 protected in 2026, and Top 9 protected in 2027. If this pick does not become a 1st round pick by the 2028 NBA Draft then it will become a 2nd round pick in that draft. It might be a few years until this pick is solved as the Detroit Pistons are still in there rebuild and are currently the second worst team in the NBA record wise as of this article’s release.

2nd Round

Oklahoma City Thunder (Own Pick) – The Thunder currently still have property of there 2nd round pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

2023 NBA Draft

1st Round

Oklahoma City Thunder (Own Pick) – The Thunder currently still have property of their 1st round pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

Denver Nuggets (Steve Adams) – This Pick is a Top 14 protected pick in the 2023, 2024, and 2025 NBA Draft. If the pick is not a 1st in either of those years, then the pick will turn into two second round picks in the 2025 and 2026 NBA Drafts.

Miami Heat (From Paul George Trade) – This draft pick is a Top 14 protected pick in 2023, 2024, and 2025. If the pick has not been made then it will be an unprotected 1st round pick in 2026.

Washington Wizards (2021 NBA Trade Up) – Remember the Alperen Sengün trade in the 2021 NBA Draft well this is the other draft pick that was traded to them. This pick does have protections. In 2023 this pick is Top 14, Top 12 protected in 2024, Top 10 protected in 2025, and Top 8 protected in 2026. If this pick does not become a 1st round pick by the 2027 NBA Draft then it will become a 2nd round pick in that draft.

2nd Round

Washington Wizards (Steve Adams Trade) – This pick is unprotected.

Miami Heat or Dallas Mavericks (James Johnson Trade) – This is an interesting one as the Thunder will get the higher draft choice between the Dallas Mavericks and the Miami Heat.

2024 NBA Draft

Oklahoma City Thunder (Own Pick) – The Thunder currently still have property of their 1st round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Los Angeles Clippers (Paul George Trade) – This is an unprotected 1st round selection.

Utah Jazz (Derrick Favors) – It is a Top-10 protected pick in 2024 and 2025. In 2026 it is a Top 8 protected pick. If it does no get settled than the pick turns to a 2028 2nd round pick.

Philadelphia 76ers (Danny Green Trade) – This is a Top 6 protected pick in 2025. In 2026 and 2027 the pick turns to a Top 4 pick. If the Pick is a Top 4 pick than these picks turn to a second round pick in the 2027 NBA Draft

Los Angeles Clippers (Paul George Trade) – This pick is unprotected

2nd Round

Oklahoma City Thunder (Own Pick) – The Thunder currently still have property of their 2nd round pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.

Dallas Mavericks (Trevor Ariza Trade) – This pick is unprotected

Philadelphia 76ers (George Hill Trade) – This pick is unprotected

2027 NBA Draft
1st Round

Oklahoma City Thunder (Own Pick) – The Thunder currently still have property of their 1st round pick in the 2027 NBA Draft.

2nd Round

Oklahoma City Thunder (Own Pick) – The Thunder currently still have property of their 2nd round pick in the 2027 NBA Draft.

Houston Rockets (Hamidou Diallo Trade) – This pick is unprotected

Indiana Pacers (Jalen Lecque Trade) – This pick is unprotected

Miami Heat (Trevor Ariza Trade) – This pick is unprotected

So in total the Oklahoma City Thunder have 20 1st round picks and 16 2nd round picks. It is extremely impressive that GM Sam Presti was able to get this many draft picks for the team to utilize. Pick Collecting is great but the Oklahoma City Thunder have to make the right draft choices or trades in the next few years. If the Oklahoma Thunder don’t draft or trade well with these draft picks then it will be very embarrassing for the organization. I do have hope that Sam Presti will make the right moves and utilizes his draft picks properly.
