With Preseason being over and teams trying to get to the 53 man roster, trades did occur during final cut day. Some teams are trying to bolster there team by adding before the season starts. Sometimes this could get done as a last addition before the 1st regular season. That is sort of what the Panthers did by acquiring WR Laviska Shenault via trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The details of this trade are down below.

Trade Details
Jacksonville Jaguars Acquire:
2023 7th Round Pick and 2024 6th Round Pick
Carolina Panthers Acquire: WR Laviska Shenault

Jacksonville Jaguars Side

Not too hard to analyze. It was clear that Shenault was not in the long term plans for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was not consistent and with yet another new head coach, it was clear that Shenault was the odd guy out. So the Jaguars were shopping him and wanted to get some draft capital for a player that is not in there long term plans. That is why the Jaguars made this deal.

Carolina Panthers Side

Carolina has been rumored in being interested in acquiring any wide receivers that were on the trading block. Some wide receivers that they had interest in was WR Denzel Mims, WR Preston Williams, WR Lynn Bowden, and etc. . It never hurts to get more depth at wide receiver and getting a former 2nd round pick like Shenault was. He showed flashes in Jacksonville, but he needed a change of scenery. Carolina needs to get as much talent to surround Baker Mayfield as this team needs to make the playoffs in order to save Matt Rhule’s job.

Grades for Laviska Shenault Trade
Jacksonville Jaguars: B+
Carolina Panthers: B

A win-win trade for both teams, but I got to give the win to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Mainly due to the fact that they got multiple draft picks for a player that was not in there future. The Panthers don’t loose either as they bolster the wide receiver core and did not have to give too much draft capital. Overall great move by Jacksonville Jaguars GM Trent Baalke and Carolina Panthers GM Scott Fitterer.
