The New York Giants came into free agency looking to build up the poor offensive line. The problem with that is their lack of money due to the careless spending of previous general manager Dave Gettleman. But new general manager Joe Schoen found a way to add some key new starters on a budget.
The Giants looked for a guard with starting experience and they got one. They inked a 3 year deal with former Seahawks and Colts offensive lineman Mark Glowinski, worth 18.3 million dollars with it being up to 20 million dollars with incentives. 11.4 of that million being guaranteed. This contract is over 3 years for the 29-year-old guard who has started 55 games for the Colts over the last 4 seasons. Glowinski posted a 70.1 overall grade according to PFF which is a major upgrade at right guard over Will Hernandez. Hernandez posted just a 55.9 overall grade according to PFF.
Jon Feliciano joins Glowinski as he is signing a 1 year deal with the Giants. Feliciano is a 7 year veteran in the NFL who has experience playing guard and center. He has signed with the Giants to play center. The Giants had a lot of problems with the center position this previous season, as they had to turn to Billy Price to be the starter when Nick Gates, unfortunately, went down with a season-ending injury in week 2 of the season. Gates has needed multiple surgeries on his leg, so the Giants sign the solid lineman in Feliciano to help them feel better at that position.
The Giants will still look to upgrade this offensive line group throughout the rest of free agency, and the draft. Look for more low-cost deals at the offensive line position, and early investments in the draft.
